WAUmail
Overview
WAUmail is a powerful and well-scalable web-based email system providing access to e-mail via POP3 protocol and allowing sending it through SMTP protocol using a mail client application. Developed with PHP and other top-notch technologies, WAUMail uses PostgresSQL as a database; and it represents a perfect solution for mail systems both of small businesses and large enterprises. Special attention has been paid to the multi-language support. All data is stored in the system using Unicode/UTF-8 encoding thus allowing customers utilizing any symbols almost of all existing alphabets (including Asian and Near-Eastern ones). WAUmail has been developed as an application for mail service providers; however it can be deployed by various distributed companies wishing to provide their employees with access to a unified email system via the Web.
Key Features
Scaling
One of the main requirements to the software has been capability of serving over one million of users supporting a great number of languages including Asian ones. The languages support feature has been implemented by Unicode. The user interface can be also easily adjusted according to the needs of any language. The system high performance has been gained due to a superscalar system development. All stages of email processing (receiving, storing, sending) and users servicing (registration, granting access to the mail) can be distributed to different servers, if required.
Spam and Virus Control
Protection against spam and viruses has become a benchmark for such email systems. WAUmail has several levels of spam protection: verification with RBL lists, Challenge response and SpamKey technologies, as well as checking messages using the SpamAssassin anti-spam filter. Virus scanning is implemented by AMaVIS software.
